iOS 27.2 Update Supports Apple Pencil on iPhone Duo and Adds New Features
Apple announced the release of iOS 27.2, which brings a new range of support for Apple Pencil on its foldable phone, the iPhone Duo, alongside software features that improve the user experience in several areas. The update also includes the “Edge Light” feature to improve face lighting during video calls, along with improvements in control interfaces and interaction with the Siri voice assistant.
Apple Pencil support on iPhone Duo
Apple Pencil support on iPhone Duo is an important step in enhancing the user experience for this foldable phone, as this feature provides new capabilities for drawing, writing, and editing content directly on its large 7.6-inch screen. This support comes after Apple previously promised to enable the smart stylus by the end of the year, allowing users to take full advantage of Apple Pencil features in the iOS 27 environment, which is specially adapted for the device’s external and internal display.
iPhone Duo benefits from iOS 27
In addition to smart stylus support, iOS 27 has been modified to suit the nature of the phone’s two displays: an external 5.4-inch screen and a larger internal 7.6-inch screen. This allows apps such as Netflix, Prime Video, and Microsoft Outlook to take effective advantage of the additional display space, although some apps still require improvements to integrate smoothly with the phone’s unique design.
Other features in iOS 27.2 update
The new update brings a set of functional improvements that enhance the user experience with iOS in general:
- Apple added the “Edge Light” feature, which lights up the user’s face during video calls, especially in low-light conditions, to provide a clearer and more professional image.
- The update supports the use of both front and rear cameras in group calls via FaceTime, allowing more angles and scenes to be shown during conversations.
- Siri AI’s capabilities have expanded to include suggestions for automatic actions in the Messages app, in addition to support for new languages such as French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish, which enhances users’ interaction with the smart assistant in their native languages.
- Support for Google’s SynthID AI watermark feature has been added in the Photos app and Image Playground, providing digital-rights protection through smart watermarks.
Apple app updates
iOS 27.2 updates included some adjustments to Apple’s core apps:
- The Apple TV app on iPhone now supports user profiles, making it easier to customize content for each user.
The playback list in the Apple Podcasts app has been redesigned, with the “Up Next” list replaced by a “New Episodes” list followed by a “Continue Playing” section to make it easier to follow episodes.
The Apple Music logo has been updated to reflect the app’s new look within the system.
The iPhone Duo experience between past and present
The iPhone Duo is Apple’s first foldable phone, and it launched with iOS 27 modified to suit its distinctive dual screens. Apple Pencil support was scheduled for later in the year, and that has now been achieved with iOS 27.2, enhancing the device’s capabilities in productivity and creativity.
The new update also comes as part of Apple’s effort to make the main apps better use the phone’s foldable screen, while continuing to improve integration with the Siri voice assistant and artificial intelligence to enhance everyday functions.
