🏰 Al Qassimi Palace in Ras Al Khaimah: An Architectural Masterpiece Carrying the Secrets of the Past and the Secrets of “Haunted Palaces”

Al Qassimi Palace, also known locally as the “Al Ghamedh Palace”, is one of the most prominent tourist and cultural landmarks in the Emirate of Ras Al Khaimah in the United Arab Emirates. This palace, which was built to be a luxurious residence, carries within it stories and secrets about its long silence and its fame as a haunted palace, before it was restored and opened today to visitors to explore a rich history and exceptional architecture.

🏗️ The Construction of the Palace and Its Historical Origins

The palace stands tall on a high hill overlooking a surrounding landscape of stunning natural beauty, and Sheikh Abdul Aziz bin Hamid Al Qasimi ordered the construction of Al Ghamedh Palace. Work on building this palace began in the mid-1970s, and its completion took a long time before it was finished.

The palace was designed to be a luxurious private home with large spaces, but it did not see much occupancy for about 35 years, as dust kept accumulating in its spacious corridors and large rooms, which sparked many folk stories describing the palace as haunted.

👻 How Did the Palace Become “Haunted”?

The palace’s long life and the emptiness it experienced led to the growth of many stories and folk legends that linked the palace to unexplained phenomena. This description as the “haunted palace” or Haunted Palace in Ras Al Khaimah served the palace by drawing attention to it and making it part of cultural tourism thanks to its mysterious stories.

These stories were not officially explained, but they became part of the palace’s popular identity, giving it mystery and charm at the same time.

🛠️ Restoration and Bringing the Palace Back to Life

In 2019, the palace underwent a major transformation after it was purchased, and a specialized team began a precise restoration process to preserve its historical and artistic features. Many of the palace walls decorated with mosaic tiles were preserved in an artistic way, in addition to the original wall paintings that carry a delicate decorative character.

The restoration works also included repairing the art pieces, statues, ornate windows, and luxurious crystal chandeliers, which restored the palace’s luster and appeal.

🎨 The Palace’s Remarkable Artistic and Architectural Features

The palace now contains about 35 rooms of different uses, decorated with luxurious furnishings and reflecting traditional Arab craftsmanship and modernity at the same time. One of the palace’s most distinctive features is a large glass pyramid that rises above some of its sections, decorated with drawings of the twelve zodiac signs that add a distinctive cultural and artistic dimension.

Inside the palace, visitors can enjoy a diverse mix of art pieces that reflect the region’s history and rich heritage.
