- The average DHA level in cerebrospinal fluid increased by 17% after six months, confirming that the supplements actually reached the brain.
- The supplements showed no noticeable improvement in memory and cognitive performance tests compared with the placebo group.
- No delay or reduction in hippocampus shrinkage was proven, indicating that fish oil supplements did not affect the progression of Alzheimer’s-related brain atrophy.

In interpreting the results, researcher Dr. Hussein Naji Yassin, director of the USC Center for Personalized Brain Health, explained that Omega-3 plays a vital role in the formation of connections between brain cells, but isolated supplements appear insufficient to maintain mental health or prevent Alzheimer’s disease.
